WELCOME to The High Country of Tuolumne County

It is such a pleasure to welcome you to my blog!

Hope that you enjoy the smell of fresh air, the songs of the birds - even if they are woodpeckers putting holes in your cabin walls! Let me know how you like this "new enterprise" of mine!

MEMORIES

We enjoyed GRAMMA OATMEAL the other day for breakfast.  What on earth is GRAMMA OATMEAL? you ask.  It is what you make for the grandkid’s breakfast when you are out of milk, but have ice cream in the freezer!!  And we were not even out of MILK!!  Sure have good memories of GRANDKID Sleepovers!!

We were out for a drive and saw the sign for the Selway River Road and no CLOSED BARRIERS (last year there were!)  So we spent two hours slowly making the 18 mile trip to Selway Falls.  Narrow road with potholes and traffic – cars, pickups, and quads or side by sides.   Selway Falls is as close to MOOSE CREEK as you can get without a horse or an airplane.  MOOSE CREEK is the Ranger Station where we camped with the three kids about the time that Kathleen started the 2nd grade at Pinecrest Elementary School.  So Allan was going into the 6th grade and Tom3 was starting 8th grade!!  LONG LONG AGO IN A LAND FAR AWAY!?

I opened the blind on the kitchen window this morning just in time to see a small plane – white with red markings – land at the airport here at Kamiah Idaho!!  Our 6 passenger airplane - 6199J - was white with red markings as was the Piper Super Cub that I learned to fly in.  It was a great memory to start the day!!  I had not known that there WAS an airport just across the Clearwater River from where we are parked at LONG CAMP on Highway 12!!  Tom, with his super sensitive hearing had been hearing the traffic there for the last 24 hours,  me not a peep – even with the hearing aids plugged in my ears!!  I must have turned them down to eat something crunchy!!

I complimented the chef at the Kooski Café this afternoon – the best Taco Salad I have ever eaten.  I asked where the chef got her tortillas and our little teenaged waitress said that she MAKES HER OWN!!  They were crispy and flavorful, and that was just the beginning.  The lettuce was torn not chopped, the olives were sliced and not just tossed in whole,  the layering was excellent and no refried beans messing it up as in the fast food places that offer taco salads.  THEN I REMEMBERED my mother in law Virginia.  We called her the THANK YOU LADY!!  She never missed an opportunity to thank a server, a housekeeper, a gas station attendant, anyone giving service of any kind!!  Warmed my heart that I too had taken the time to inquire about something as simple as a Taco Salad, THANKS MOM!   For the example and the memories!!
